This past winter, Delaware experienced lots of snow during weekdays. The school had given us the two built-in snow days that the state allows. With the stress of needing to send kids into school while snow is on the ground, the school felt bad for the students who were snagged of their snow breaks. The Wilmington Friends Community has decided to give “Rain Days” instead of snow days. With spring coming, there are many rain showers to be expected. Students will get off like they would a normal snow day. Rebecca Zug, Head of Upper School, has some comments on this issue. “Rain causes serious impediments to on-campus learning. Even a light sprinkle is detrimental. As soon as rain clouds appear we will mobilize early dismissals and cancel classes. Students have to be at home where it is safest when it rains. We don’t want anyone commuting to campus during precipitation of any kind.”
